Headquartered in Amsterdam, MessageBird’s global business reaches billions of devices, serves over 20,000 customers and operates across nine hubs. Since 2011, we have grown to a powerhouse team of 500 employees who represent more than 55 nationalities, and we’re proud to be a “Work Anywhere” company.

A brief history of MessageBird

We were an SMS company
Founded in Amsterdam at “The Garage,” with four employees.
Completed our first acquisitions, which set the foundation to become a turnkey communications solution.
Launched our self-serve platform for SMS, which sent 350 million messages that year.
With 10,000 customers, we began global expansion with a team in London.
We were building the telecom company of the future

With 20 employees, we developed the first MessageBird Chat API.
Selected to join
Y Combinator in San Francisco, where we also established a local team. The current Voice API was born during a company trip to Thailand. Over 1 billion SMS messages sent.
Closed a historic $60 million Series A funding, the largest ever by a European software company. Introduced Flow Builder to our suite of SMS, Voice and Chat APIs. Launched a team in Singapore.
Over 100 employees moved to a new office in Amsterdam. Launched Conversations API (the successor to Chat API) and began working with WhatsApp as an official business partner.

Launched Inbox, which pioneered OPaaS. Closed a Series C funding round and became a “Work Anywhere” company. Over 10 billion SMS messages sent.
